The Halakura College is situated at Halakura, Post Office- Mahamayahat located in Dhubri district of Assam state has established on 11th September,1991 with the active initiatives of local peoples under the leadership of Late Alhaj Jamal Uddin Bepari and Chandra Kishor Bhakat.the peoples of Halakura contributed a lot to establish the Arts Stream College with financially to spread higher education in the entire inter-state and international bordering backward region and also donated land to establish the higher institution. The Halakura College is affiliated to the Gauhati University.
The Department of History in Halakura College has opened while established the College along with some other departments. The founder Lecturers of the department of History were, Mr.Aminur Rahman Ahmed (Now Senior advocate) and Bidyadhar Gogoi (Subject teacher in History, Halakura HS School). Mr. Bidyadhar Gogoi dedicated his service till the department was engaged with whole time Lecturer with UGC Norms. Mr. Abdus Sobir Hazorika has joined first as whole time Lecturer into the College on 25th November, 1992 and also appointed him as head of the Department of History. Till now Mr. Abdus Sobir Hazorika is the Head of the Department (HOD) of History. He is also the DDO of the College. He had also hold the additional post as HOD of the department of Environmental Studies.
Mr. Md. Ibrahim Hussain Sheikh has joined as whole time Lecturer in the Department of History of Halakura College on 31st December, 1994 and providing his service till now. In addition to his normal duties as Lecturer in the Department of History, Ibrahim Hussain Sheikh, since 2011, is also providing additional service as Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Studies till now.
Mr.Mohor Uddin Mondal had joined in the College as Lecturer in the Department of History in 1995, but within a short span of time, he had resigned from his post. After Mohor Uddin Mondal, Mr. Nurul Amin and Mr. Gautam Kalita had found to join as Lecturer in Halakura College in the Department of History on 30th and 31st July, 1997 respectively. Mr. Nurul Amin is working as Assistant Professor in the Department of History till now. However, Mr. Gautam Kalita had resigned from his post in 2001. In place of Gautam Kalita, Mr. Samsul Alom has joined as Assistant Professor on 25th March, 2010 in the Department of History and is working till date.
After getting all necessary permission and affiliation from Gauhati University, the Department of History in Halakura College is conducted syllabus recommended by Gauhati University for under graduate (UG) level courses both in general and Honours courses with introducing semester system course from 2011-12 session and subsequently CBCS Course from the Academic Session 2019-2020. The general Course in history has started from the time of inception of the College (1991) and the Honours Course has introduced from the academic Session of 1994-1995. The Department of History in Halakura College is showing good result in University Conducted examination every year.
