Departmental History:

Halakura College was established in the year1991 where the department of philosophy was introduced in the year 1994 under the initiative of Sri Sudam Chandra Roy, the then subject teacher of Halakura H S School. The department has reached its present state with the restless contribution from eminent scholars like Dr. Balendra Patgiri, Mrs.Shila Pramanik, Mrs. Mrinali Dutta ,Sri.Sanjib Kumar Roy, Sri. Binoy kumar Patgiri, Dr. Bhupesh Patgiri, and Dr. Shyamal Sarkar. Right now,the department has four faculty members viz-Abdul Jalil Talukdar, Mrs.Gita Roy, MR. Hemanta Kumar Roy & Dr.Saiful Rahman, where the first three are the product of this department.

Objectives:

*To provide philosophical knowledge keeping in view the global trend in the subject.

*To help in developing analytical and critical outlook through the study of philosophy.

*To provide proper education based on epistemic, aesthetic and spiritual values for the holistic growth of the students.

*To provide value education on different practical aspects of life like environment, agriculture, medicine etc.

*To provide religious and spiritual information on scriptures like Upanisada and Gita.

Outcomes: Almost 30/35 students complete their graduate degree each year carrying good quality of marks. Most of them clear their Masters Degree from various universities of India and also clear NET & SLET. Some of them go to other disciplines like B.Ed,  L.L.B, Nursing etc.

Research and publication: Academic activities like taking up of research project, publication of books and papers, organisation of seminars/workshops have been a mark of the department.  The Department has published one edited book entitled “ Sankardevar Dharma aru Darsan” edited by Hemanta Kumar Roy, Assistant professor, Department of Philosophy. The department has projected to publish a research journal very soon.

Placement details: Students passed out from the department of philosophy have found placement in different fields like college teacher, school teacher, advocates, nurses, defence, politics etc.
